Paintings: Begging Bowls

In 1987, I was studying with a philosophical teacher. He quoted an ancient Taoist script that read, "Come before the Divine with a bowl, an empty bowl, a beggars bowl." The begging bowl is, for me, an artistic metaphor for receptivity and acceptance. Since that time, I have painted the begging bowls that come to me in dreams, meditation or reverie.
